The Black McRae is a remarkably astute fighter known for its counterpunching style. Instead of initiating contact, the McRae waits patiently to catch its opponent committing to a charge. As the rival rooster closes in, the McRae delivers a powerful single stroke, striking before the other rooster can recover from its overextension.
Mr. William McRae developed his Black McRae lineage through a three-way cross of Jack Wactor’s Sheldon Black Roundhead, Kent Mug (Black Mugwump), and 1/8 Blueface Hatch. McRae Blacks are characterized by their strong stature, mulberry faces, dark red eyes, and ebony legs.
During his cockfighting days, William maintained close ties with the Wactor family, having been family friends for nearly half a century. This connection allowed him to acquire up to 100 baby stags every other year since he began breeding his Blacks. Mr. McRae is heavily influenced by the Black Roundhead bloodline. Notably, he was one of the first long-knife fighters to ship birds from the United States to the Philippines around the time of the Korean War.
